About Us

At Bread Shed, we are about food and love. Join our efforts to offer feeding programs, give away clothing, and introduce people to the love of Jesus Christ.

Mission Statement

“Bread Shed exists to feed the hungry, spiritually & physically, and acts as an extension of the love of Jesus Christ.”

Who We Are

The Bread Shed exists to feed the hungry, both spiritually and physically, in Poplar Bluff, Ellsinore, and Doniphan communities of Southeast Missouri. The Bread shed is 100% volunteer run by churches and community members and has been active since 2010. Our goal is to provide a “no strings attached” ministry to ensure that children and families in the community have enough food to eat. We connect the Southeast Missouri Food Bank and local charity organizations to those in need.

Programs

Saturday Food & Clothing Distributions

The Bread Shed partners with the SEMO Food Bank to provide monthly mobile food pantry distributions in Butler, Ripley, and Carter Counties. The Butler County distribution operates on the 2nd Saturday of each month in Poplar Bluff. The Ripley County distribution operates on the 3rd Saturday of each month in Doniphan. The Carter County distribution operates on the 1st Saturday of each month in Ellsinore. At each of the sites, a free breakfast is provided by a local church. Clothing donated by the local communities is also given away each Saturday.

“Breaking Bread” Sunday Community Meal

Every Sunday in Poplar Bluff at the Bread Shed North D St. location, a community meal is hosted by volunteers from churches, individuals, and organizations. The volunteers prepare and serve the food, restaurant style, to a growing average of 150 people.
